The production plant uses two main sources of energy:
Heating of part of the production departments (used in winter months only).
Plant & machinery motive power and heating/cooling of offices and some production departments. Over 70% of the energy used comes from self-produced renewable sources.
The company firmly believes in the principles of the Circular Economy and has therefore long since implemented actions to reduce resource consumption and waste.
All raw materials used in the manufacture of paper products come from certified European suppliers.
80% by mass of the basic materials purchased and used in the production cycle (cardboard in reels, plastic granules, steel coils, corrugated cardboard boxes) are secondary raw materials; meaning that they come from recycling (largely from post-consumption).
Packaging is made of recycled material and, for the same content and performance, optimised to reduce the volume / sales unit ratio, resulting in less raw material usage and reduced CO2 emissions in transport.
Water consumption is limited to cleaning the printing units. We have recently invested in new printing technology that has enabled us to switch from daily to weekly machine washing (70% reduction in water consumption), moreover it has brought considerable ink savings.
All the production processes of paper products, from the raw/secondary material to the packaging of the finished product, are carried out within the same plant.
This allows us to optimise machinery and production processes to make the various components of the products without waste or, where this is not possible, to be able to reintroduce them into the production cycle (more than 95% of plastic waste is recovered and reintroduced into the production cycle); the remaining 5% of plastic and all non-reusable paper and metal scraps are collected and sent to recycling specialised companies.
We have made major investments to reduce electricity consumption, and more are still to come.
In 2022, we replaced the cooling system machine, switching from compressor technology to adiabatic dry cooler technology (25% reduction in electricity consumption).
We are gradually replacing hydraulic injection moulding machines with electric ones (30% reduction in electricity consumption per machine).
Finally, it is evident that by realising the entire production cycle within the same plant, there is no need for intermediate packaging and there is above all a drastic reduction in the IN/OUT handling of the various components or semi-finished parts that make up the finished product.
Apart from a few models where the price variable is preponderant, the vast majority of Bertesi’s products are made with the highest quality techniques and materials and designed to last for a long time (over 10 or 20 years on average).
A longer life significantly reduces the use and processing of new natural resources as well as their subsequent disposal at the end of the life cycle.
In the data sheets of each product line, we have therefore decided to indicate what the average Life Cycle* of each model is, to assist the distributor and consumer towards an eco-responsible choice.
* The value indicated is of course to be intended as referring to proper use of the product.

Our products are designed to minimise the use of materials, to eliminate production waste, to be durable and to be easily disassembled at the end of their life, so that they can be sent to the recycling chain to become raw/secondary materials again.
Our products contain no toxic substances and are made of 100% recyclable and reusable materials.
Metal furniture is a highly sustainable choice; steel is a circular resource thanks to its ability to be 100% recycled indefinitely without any loss of quality.
It complies with the Minimum Environmental Criteria as, unlike wooden cabinets, it has very low emissions of volatile organic compounds.
Metal furniture is durable (average life cycle of over 20 years) and is also completely modular, adjustable and repairable, allowing the product’s life cycle to be extended.
Designed to be easily disassembled at the end of their life cycle, each component can be recycled and become secondary raw material again, reducing the environmental impact to almost zero.

Internationalisation project targeting foreign markets: France, Benelux and the UK
Initiative co-financed with the support of the CALL FOR SUPPORT FOR SME INTERNATIONALIZATION PROJECTS, CONSORTIA, AND SME AGGREGATIONS – 2023 promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region Action 1.3.2 “Incentivizing internationalization processes to strengthen competitiveness and attractiveness in the markets of the regional production system” of the Regional ERDF Program 2021/2027
Cartoplast Bertesi Srl has implemented an internationalization project aimed at developing its business in the international context, entering new business areas considered particularly interesting such as: France, Benelux, UK. The company has leveraged the actual potential for strengthening in the aforementioned markets by improving its ability to operate in the international context. To pursue these objectives, a project was defined with the following interventions: digital marketing activities, consultancy for opening and developing marketplaces in the identified target countries, activities for the preparation of promotional material. The project has allowed Cartoplast Bertesi to increase the company’s performance level in terms of revenue and export incidence on revenue in relation to the 3 target reference countries (France; Benelux; UK)
